July 1st 2019
Sorry about the date error last week. This blog software doesn’t push edits very frequently, so they persist longer than one would expect.
That was 6/24. This is 7/1.
On the left:
lone socialist voice
sea of corporate media
monthly fighting fund
stories inspire community engagement
social news network
unhinged fox news interview illustrates
On the right:
mike pompeo southern border
china democrat party democrats
presidential election border crisis
somebody like donald trump
material connection disclosure
The language on the left, while not extreme, remains pretty partisan. “Corporate media” and “Community engagement” are not things one hears on the right. And “lone socialist voice” is a bit pathetic, considering the multitudes in the chorus, while the sadly relevant “tell truth” is horrifying. Because of course, telling the truth should not be such an issue, and in these times, it is.
Meanwhile, the right has moved from fear-disgust-sex-scandal-murder-violence and they-hate-us-as-much-as-we-hate-them, to the lets-get-election-serious mode. This is where serious topics are discussed in ways where authority is claimed through legal or security lenses. And it’s where associations are made that might otherwise be a bit of a stretch. For example, “China Democrat Party Democrats” is the kind of association one would pay a lot of money to have stick. They seem to think “probe” is a bad word. And “material connection disclosure” is legal buzz-wording / defense-lawyering for people who might otherwise be convicted in the court of public opinion on mere circumstantial connections.
Certainly a significant shift for the media on the Right this week.
