CivicFeed can ingest millions of articles and extract hundreds of millions of phrases. It also merges information published by third parties about the left, right, or center (or center-left, center-right) biases of news outlets. From this, we can do a lot of amazing things. Each week, we look at the phrases showing up frequently in left or right media, subtract the center, subtract the prior week, and report.
For this past week:
On the left:
/steep court administration costs/ (re: felon voting legislation)
/penny mordaunt/ (UK Secretary of State for Defence)
/equality act/ (LGBT-related proposed legislation)
And on the right:
/huffman federal court in boston/
/death by london bridge/
/steny hoyer/ (defending Tlaib)
As usual, the right creates a backdrop of negativity, especially in contrast to ideal behaviors of the past (perhaps seldom actually realized). One can’t get more pessimistic than “world ending”. The left looks at issues, many of which it may care about, alone. “Steep court administration costs” is a pretty prosaic, if practical concern.
Both sides mention Representative Tlaib, perhaps both thinking it will enrage the base. Apparently the center doesn’t really care about her one way or the other. Game of Thrones is mostly a left-media concern.
